Original 19th-century fine art, hand-selected by Joan & Jerry Hawk. Open daily, Sunday's by appointment, in Bedford, Pennsylvania.
Joan and Jerry are both retired geologists living in historic Bedford, Pennsylvania. They started out with nothing and bought their first antique, a quarter-sawn oak hall chair, in 1987. In those days, before the internet, finding original 19th-century décor meant traveling extensively to bring the right pieces home.
Fast-forward to today, and they are proud of what that long, patient work has built.
Both homes restored over decades of careful work. The 1889 home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Every room filled the slow way, one well-considered piece at a time, beginning with that first quarter-sawn oak hall chair.
Pieces chosen carefully for craftsmanship, provenance, and condition tend to hold their worth, and often grow in value, as the years pass. Forty years of buying selectively has made that plain.
Their passion for fine art led them to open Bedford Fine Art Gallery, located within their 1889 and 1930 homes, where they enjoy helping people discover original 19th-century fine art that pleases now and for many years to come.
