ECORAD Radiator restoration
Huge Tip! – Our 1889 Victorian home is quite large and one of the rooms that we wanted to turn into a bathroom did not have a steam radiator in it. At the point we started the bathroom restoration, we realized it would be just about impossible to modify the 1889 closed-loop system piping of the current original steam radiators and boiler to include a new radiator in the bathroom restoration (at the extreme far end of our home). After a lot of research, we discovered ECORAD.
On their website ECORAD states that they are the “North American Leader in cast iron radiator restoration.”
ECORAD states: “Cast iron radiators of yesteryear are true masterpieces of design and manufacturing. With pride and commitment, we invest all our energy in this noble mission of conserving our heritage and conserving the environment. It is in this spirit that we created ECORAD in 2007. A unique company in North America entirely dedicated to the complete restoration and electrical conversion of cast iron radiators. Our innovative solution improves the performance of cast iron radiators already in place, while bringing older buildings into today’s era of automation. Ours is a creative and eco-responsible signature for restoration projects. A reliable and profitable solution.”
ECORAD provides original antique radiator restoration, which is summarized by ECORAD as follows:
“Complete cast iron radiator restoration. To update the central water and steam system. Restored antique cast iron radiators deliver optimal performance by stripping away layers of paint and cleaning the interior, both of which improves radiant heat transfer.layers of paint and cleaning the interior, both of which improve radiant heat transfer.
- Preserves the aesthetic value and the heritage of the heating system already in place.
- Allows an optimal integration to the central water or steam heating system of the building being restored.
- Optimizes the current system by possible addition, replacement or resizing of radiators.
- Limits restoration costs by reusing original radiators.

The solution for our bathroom restoration was ECORAD’s electric conversion of an original antique cast iron radiator. ECORAD summarizes their electric conversion of antique cast iron radiators as follows:
“Combined with the cast iron radiator restoration the optional electric conversion offers many modern benefits. Innovations developed by ECORAD make it possible to recover or even surpass original performance of cast iron radiators.
- Offers a transition from central heating management to flexible multi-zone management with individual settings for each unit.
- Allows the demand on the power grid to be scheduled around peak hours and rates as needed to reduce consumption.
- Easily integrates into modern building management like any other building automation equipment or system.
- Applicable to virtually all cast-iron radiators already installed in historic buildings.
- Eliminates boilers and obsolete piping subject to recurring maintenance management and costs.”
