In “The Victorian House Book” by Robin Guild, there is a great section on Period Decoration.  He gives a good summary of period decoration styles such as: understanding the Victorian period.  He concludes: “Through all these change in style, coziness remained the central theme of the Victorian home.  A home is a social form of self-expression, and it was somewhat between fashionableness and comfort that the Victorians felt at ease.”
